ALL YOU NEED TO GET STARTED IS AN IDEA. That's it. Just an idea and the determination to put something down on the page. Buuut the thing is that part can be very hard. It takes accountability! It also, for a lot of us, takes some structure and a deadline we did not set ourselves. This seminar is designed to get your idea for a novel out of your head and onto that page. Students will write their first chapter, work on character sketches (not the drawing kind), do writing exercises, and overall do a lot of tangible work that will pave the way to actually dive into drafting their books.
This class is perfect for anyone who doesn’t feel ready yet to dive full-speed-ahead into drafting, and who wants to spend some more time developing your idea and learning about structure and the essential elements of any good book.
CLASS STRUCTURE:
SESSION ONE (August 2): What are the elements needed for a good idea?
SESSION TWO (August 9): What makes a good character?
SESSION THREE (August 16): What makes good conflict?
SESSION FOUR (August 23): Exploring theme
SESSION FIVE (August 30): Let’s get to writing
Sessions run over Zoom Saturdays Aug 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, at 3pm PST, for sessions that will go up to three hours
